Everything You Need to Know About Winter Sports at Ober Gatlinburg

As the winter season approaches, Ober is preparing for winter sport lovers from all over to hit the slopes. Ober begins making their snow weeks in advance of opening so you can count on plush, smooth snow for your first trip down the mountain. Here is everything you need to know about winter sports in Ober Gatlinburg:

Snow Tubing

ober gatlinburg signOpening November 20 through March 27, the Winter Snow Tubing at Ober is a fan-favorite activity for people of all ages and abilities. Regardless of if you’re a skilled skier or snowboarder, you can have a fun day on the slopes with your friends and family while tubing. Hold on as you fly down the snow-covered hill for an hour and a half. For a 90 minute session, weekday tickets are $30 and weekend and holiday tickets are $35. Children ages 3 and 4 are free with a paid adult.

Skiing and Snowboarding

Typically, the ski slopes open in early December and extend through early March. Ober Gatlinburg is a great place to kick off ski and snowboarding season with its variety of hills for all experience and skill levels. Whether you need to start on the beginner hills or you’re ready to take on the advanced slopes, you’ll find exactly what you’re looking for.

Equipment and Rentals

In addition to ski, board and boot rentals, they also offer pants and bibs, jackets and helmets that you can rent for your session. You are more than welcome to use your own equipment if you brought it, but Ober’s rentals are given on a first come first serve basis, so we suggest you get there early if you need to rent anything.

On-Site Lessons

If you’ve never tried any of these winter sports, don’t stress. Ober actually offers snowsport lessons at their Ski and Snowboard School. You can choose between a group or private lesson where an expert will walk you through techniques such as gliding, slowing down, turning and stopping. You will also get lessons in safety tips so you’ll have fun while staying safe on the slopes.

Cubbies Snow Zone

Children can enjoy this snowy playground for only $10 or free with a ski area ticket. In order to play in the Cubbies Snow Zone, your kids must be at least 48” tall and accompanied by an adult.

Ober Slope Report

Before you hit the slopes, make sure to check out the Ober Slope Report. Here, you can check the weather, temperatures, and even watch the Snowsports Webcam before you head to the snowpark. You can also check the conditions on the beginner, intermediate and advanced slopes and lifts.
